FAQs & calculation guide
What are PTR and PTS?

PTR is the price to retailer; PTS is the price to stockist. This tool shows each excluding GST first, with the inclusive amount alongside it. Every rate uses your selected pack, such as a strip or bottle.

Margin or markup: which should I use?

Check how your supplier quotes the percentage. Margin is based on selling price; markup is based on purchase cost. For a ₹100 sale, 20% margin means ₹80 cost. A 20% markup means ₹83.33 cost. This tool applies your selected convention to both stages.

What formulas does this calculator use?

First remove GST: base MRP = MRP ÷ (1 + GST%). For margin: PTR = base MRP × (1 − retailer %); PTS = PTR × (1 − stockist %). For markup: PTR = base MRP ÷ (1 + retailer %); PTS = PTR ÷ (1 + stockist %). Use percentages as fractions: 20% = 0.20. Multiply base rates by (1 + GST%) for inclusive rates.

Example: MRP ₹126, GST 5%, selling-price margins 20% and 10% give PTR ₹96 and PTS ₹86.40 excluding GST. Inclusive rates are ₹100.80 and ₹90.72. These are illustrative figures, not product price quotations.

Is 10 + 1 the same as 10% off?

No. You receive 11 packs while paying for 10, equivalent to 1 ÷ 11 = 9.09% off per received pack. With an additional eligible 5% invoice discount, the combined reduction is 13.64%, not 15%.

Effective cost = list rate × paid packs × (1 − discount) ÷ (paid + free packs). The estimate assumes one product, pack and GST rate. Samples, gifts and post-sale discounts may require different tax treatment.

Can I calculate MRP from a known rate?

Use Rate → MRP and enter the list PTR or PTS before schemes, with its GST basis. The result is an indicative mathematical MRP from your terms. Applicable price controls and printed MRP obligations still need to be checked.

How do I use this PTR PTS calculator?

Enter the pack MRP including GST, choose the invoice GST rate and enter your retailer and stockist percentages. PTR and PTS update instantly. Open Advanced options for markup, reverse MRP or schemes; use Share calculation on WhatsApp to share your breakdown.

Why does my PTR differ from the supplier invoice?

First compare the same pack size and GST basis. Then check whether the quoted percentage is a margin on selling price or a markup on purchase cost. Free packs, invoice discounts and rounding can also change the effective purchase rate. Select the matching terms before comparing results.

Are the preset GST and margin values compulsory?

No. The initial values are a worked example, not a product-specific tax rate or mandatory trade margin. Enter the GST shown on the relevant invoice and the percentages agreed with your supplier. Use the custom GST option when needed.
